Benjamin Burnley was doing a mic night (solo) and he dropped the mic breaking it and the owner said "Thanks to Benjamin for Breaking my @#$%& mic."
In 1999, the group briefly changed their name to "Plan 9", but soon after changed it back to the Breaking Benjamin.
