I think it's punk, what do you think??

Its a tough call. I think its more relative on an album by album basis. I definitely think Dookie was punk, but subsequent albums are tough to call. As always music evolves. Today's punk might not necessarily be equivalent to yesterday's punk. The new album has the band definitely going back in the right direction in my opinion.

I think it is

Green Day was Punk back in the pre Dookie days. Dookie was punk-ish. Now they're just main stream, no way around it. Sure they have a unique sound, but how in the hell could anybody consider boulevard of broken dreams or time of your life punk? come on. Their punk days are over. Even back in the day they were pushing it. Only thing that really made em punk was the fact that they were poor. Truth be told, if you were to ask any hard-core punks, Green Day ceased to be punk the day they signed to a major label. But of course, thats more attitude then music style.

I'm quite the fan of the earlier stuff, even after they made it big, but at the risk of sounding redundant; they're not punk.

Not punk and their new stuff sux big time. Dookie is my fave and thats punk right there

They were but not anymore

greenday today is way to main stream i think! not saing i dont like there music i think back in the day they were punk as well as today but back in the day they were hard core punk now they are punk but missin something i dont know what it is. i love greenday dookie and internatinal superhits are my favorite albumbs!
but greenday will always be known for threre dookie album no matter what!!!
i went to there american idiot concert and thery played some old shit and like 4 outa 10 people knew the words. i was shocked!!! i think people know a days know greenday for american idiot but i kknow greenday for dookie, nirmod, kerplunked and basicly all there old albums!if you have not herd there album dookie i highly suggest you get off you ass and go get it!!!

Green day has become too mainstream to go under the title,'PUNK'.
I agree that their older songs are 'PUNK' but their album American Idiot has lost it's right to be called PUNK. PUNK is simply a rebellion againist anything thats associated with normal society, mainstream.
I cant stand to listen to American Idiot anymore because it is now loved and over obsessed by EMOs and its sad that Green day have been put into that genre 'EMO' here in Australia.
DESTROY EMO ITS A DISGRACE TO OTHER SUBCULTURES...
