I not a huge Rap / Hip Hop fan but I have to say "Changes" by Tupac. "Changes" is this transcendant song that made the tradegy of his death even more disheartening.

Even though I'm a big fan of Green Day, I think the Greatest Song of all Time is Aerosmith's Dream On. All the way from 1973 and it is still extremely popular today.

I would have to say when Bob Dylan cemented his trademark sound in the song 'Like a Rolling Stone' (1965)

I am a sucker for original soundtrack songs. That being the case its neck and neck with "Streets of Philadelphia" by Bruce Springsteen (help brings AIDS to the forefront in American Ideology); and "Iris" by Goo Goo Dolls for the "City of Angels" soundtrack. (I heart Nicholas Cagesmiling smiley )

This is a tough question, because (for me) it varies from one category to the other. Its just hard to put one against another.
But breaking down a few different genres..

Ambient:
Beyond the Invisible ~ Enigma

Motown:
Tears of a Clown ~ Smokey Robinson

Christmas:
Carol of the Bells ~ Trans-Siberian Orchestra

New Wave:
Cars ~ Gary Numan

Soft Rock:
In the air tonight ~ Phil Collins

Hard Rock:
Hells Bells ~ AC/DC

Trip Hop:
Teardrop ~ Massive Attack

Wagnerian:
My Immortal ~ Evanescence

Old Country:
Ring of Fire ~ Johnny Cash
